This class will introduce the basic concepts and forms of improvisation. Students will be taught to embrace creative freedom, discover and enhance intuitive skills, and expand choice-making for the purpose of acting out an idea. The class will explore a wide variety of improv forms, techniques, and exercises.

MEET THE INSTRUCTOR

Robin M. Hughes (Instructor) Teacher, director, actor, and casting director, Robin began professionally in theatre in Minneapolis at The Guthrie Theater with Garland Wright (Christmas Carol), acting in Joanne Akalaitis’ world premiere of The Rover, and working on Akalaitis’ The Screens and Pravda with Goodman’s Robert Falls. Awarded Steppenwolf’s Acting Fellowship, Robin was in The Ballad of Little Joe (world premiere) directed by Tina Landau and worked with Anna Shapiro (Side Man), David Cromer (Orson’s Shadow), Jessica Thebus (Whispering City), John Malkovich (Hysteria), and Terry Kinney (One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest). Regional credits include Victory Gardens, Little Theatre On the Square, Williams Street Repertory, Paramount-Copley, Griffin, Circle, Light Opera Works, Theatre in the Round, New Millennium, Metropolis, Bailiwick, Mary-Arrchie, Circa 21, G&S Light Opera, and Phipps Center. Robin is an Adjunct Theatre Instructor with Dominican University-River Forest. She has a Master of Fine Arts in Acting from Illinois State University and is a graduate of the Steppenwolf School. Robin is also a proud full member of the Society of Directors and Choreographers union.
